Welcome to Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais! 

On this trip, we will begin concentrating on a few rarities of the Southeastern Atlantic Coastal Lowland Forest (in Linhares) before going after other rarities of the Espirito Santo Atlantic Forest, such as the ultra-rare Cherry-throated Tanager. After crossing beautiful landscapes and habitats and searching for Cerrado and Campo Rupestre specialties, we end our trip in the beautiful Cerrado of Serra da Canastra, enjoying the grassland birds and searching for the rare and critically endangered Brazilian Merganser.

Difficulty level: medium. During most of the trip, there won’t be much walking involved. However, on 2-3 days, there will be longer hikes that are at most 10km. In certain areas, such as Serra da Canastra National Park, we will travel many kilometers along bumpy roads crossing the National Park. There may also be times when we have to wait for hours at the same spot to see the Brazilian Merganser (one of the best strategies to see this bird is to sit still and wait for it), so patience is required. Although this isn’t a photo tour, there are plenty of opportunities to take great photos throughout the trip. Additionally, there will be many opportunities to see mammals.
